John Thomas migrated to Quebec, Canada in the early 1840’s. He married Sarah Ann Keatley in 1844 (Sarah was the eldest child of Captain William Newton Keatley, of the British army and believed to be a relative of Sir Isaac Newton). John Thomas died in Grenville, Quebec at the age of 37 in 1854. Sarah re married in 1857 to John O’Brien of Cushing Quebec. Their first child was born in Canada, but died as an infant. The family then moved to Attica, Wisconsin in the USA, where the children grew up.

Sarah and John moved to Attica, Wisconsin afterthe death of their infant child.
In Epperstone there is a memorial window dedicated to Caption William Newton Keatley in 1845 by his widow.
